Halloween and Anime — two of my favorite things! And that’s why I’m thrilled to announce that S.S. HANAMI will be performing at Propeller Anime’s 8th Anniversary Halloween Party. Friday, October 17 at The Geek Easy… so mark your calendars~

First of all, it’s completely FREE to attend. There’ll be video games, prize raffles, anime-themed drinks, dancing, cosplay, and other musical acts. Doors open at 8:00pm, and S.S. HANAMI performs at 11:00pm.

S.S. HANAMI is giving away a free song to commemorate today being the Five-Year Anniversary of our first show (September 5, 2009 at Chibi Pa). Thank you Jason and Lynn for inviting us to perform that year. The band came together as a result of that weekend — it was literally life-changing.

The song is called No Means Yes, but before anyone asks about the title… it’s about predator/prey relationships, and the power dynamic within those relations. It’s also a break-up song, among other things. You can read the lyrics on the page where you download the song. It starts off as a slower song – lonely and contemplative.

September 5, 2014 marks the 5-year anniversary of S.S. HANAMI’s first show, so on that day we will release another song from our upcoming album to commemorate the occasion.
It’ll be a free download, so consider it a birthday present from us and a huge Thank You for sticking with us, whether you’ve been along for the ride all five years or just found out about us today~

The day has finally arrived — we’re thrilled to announce the release of our single FICTITIOUS, from our upcoming album of the same name. You can download the song for free from our Soundcloud. We also filmed a fun music video for the song:

As we said in our previous newsletter, thank you all for your patience and support. The smiles, the kind words after shows, the faces we see singing along with our songs — we are truly grateful.
We also owe tremendous gratitude to Gerry King at Skylab Studios — he recorded, mixed, and mastered the song, and it wouldn’t be the same without him.

Lastly, over the period of time during which I wrote the lyrics for FICTITIOUS, I was reading the work of authors H.P. Lovecraft, Laird Barron, Thomas Ligotti, and Arthur Machen, among others. I couldn’t resist including this quotation from the venerable HPL:

“Now all my tales are based on the fundamental premise that common human laws and interests and emotions have no validity or significance in the vast cosmos-at-large. To me there is nothing but puerility in a tale in which the human form—and the local human passions and conditions and standards—are depicted as native to other worlds or other universes. To achieve the essence of real externality, whether of time or space or dimension, one must forget that such things as organic life, good and evil, love and hate, and all such local attributes of a negligible and temporary race called mankind, have any existence at all.”

Hey everyone. This is Robbi from S.S. HANAMI. I figured I’d check in to give you a quick update on band activities — what we’ve been working on and what we have planned for the future.

First off, we’ll be releasing several singles this year — the first within the next couple of months — leading up to the release of our much-delayed* second album next year.

*We were planning to release it a lot sooner, but recording got put on hold when I was kidnapped by a psycho with a giant robotic panda and whisked off to New York. But that’s a story for another time…

The album will include all of the songs that we’ve been playing live but haven’t yet recorded (Another Yesterday, etc.) as well as some completely new ones. I think I can speak for the rest of the band when I say we’re immensely proud of these tracks. Personally, I feel that this is our best work yet and is a huge step forward for the band. I wish I could let you all hear it right now, in its entirety! 😀 But there’s still a lot to be done. We’ll leave you with some pictures from the recording studio below.

Greetings, citizens of the Candy Kingdom! This is Prince Gumball speaking. You are cordially invited to the Flamingo Gardens Comics, Gaming, and Anime show this upcoming weekend (August 8-9).

S.S. HANAMI will be performing not once, but twice — at 1:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday, on the Lawn Stage. Also, at 3:00pm on Saturday, yours truly will be performing a koto demo in the Panel Room. (As always, check the con schedule when you arrive for any last minute schedule changes.)

The Flamingo Gardens are located at 3750 South Flamingo Road, Davie Florida 33330. Tickets for a two-day pass are $14 for ages 12+ and $8 for ages 4-11. Single day passes are $9 for ages 12+ and $5 for ages 4-11.

H.D. Ninja will also be playing, and there will be Taiko (Japanese drums) performers. So be sure not to miss out on this magnificent event.

Hey everyone! I’m Robin from S.S. HANAMI, and this is our last news update of 2013. But we’re planning to start off the new year with a bang, and would like you to join us!!!
On the first weekend of 2014, Jan 3rd-5th, a brand new anime convention that goes by the name of Sands of Anime will be hitting the shores of Cocoa Beach, FL. And we are thrilled to announce… ~drum roll~ …that S.S. HANAMI’s first performance of the new year will be on Friday night, January 3rd, during Sands of Anime’s Casino Night.

Go to their OFFICIAL WEBSITE for details, directions, and to purchase tickets. You can opt to purchase a one-day ticket or a weekend pass. You’ll wanna stay for the whole weekend though — check out the EVENTS schedule and the list of GUESTS!
