“I’ve been looking so long at these pictures of you…”

Thanks to everyone who came out to our performance at the Sun Coast CGA Show. Our good friend Ally took some fabulous pictures of the concert:

We also managed to snap some quick behind-the-scenes pics of our photoshoot with Frank Rose the day before. (The actual photographs from the shoot will be up shortly.)

Cherry blossoms in October

Hey everyone. I hope that you’re having a great October — it’s my favorite season of the year! S.S. HANAMI has two shows coming up this month. First, we’ll be performing this upcoming Saturday (Oct 12) at the Suncoast CGA Show in Ft. Myers, FL. Go to http://suncoast.cgashows.com for details!

Second, the Grand Brony Gala invited us back to perform at their Once Upon A Night Mare Masquerade on Saturday, October 26. Tickets will go up to $15 on Oct 12. Also, you can’t purchase tickets at the door for this one — so get your ticket beforehand to be on the “Guest List.” Go to http://www.grandgallopingbronygalacon.com for details and to purchase your ticket.

Well, that’s about it for now. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes in the world of S.S. HANAMI — we’re rehearsing our new songs like crazy and putting on the finishing touches before we head to the studio next month to record them. Also, Nat and I just spent about 4 hours pinning silver vines onto my costume for a photoshoot tomorrow. So… til next time! =]

Yep, we’ll be at Sands of Anime 2014 in Cocoa Beach, FL on January 3-5 of next year.

On the Bridge of Averoigne ~^(°,,,°)^~

Hiya, Robin here from S.S. HANAMI, with this month’s cherry-blossom forecast.
It’s Friday night, and Nat just left my house where, for the past couple of days, we’ve been writing new songs. We’re aiming to hit up the recording studio by the end of the year. A couple of the new tracks have a decidedly medieval feel to them, which is something that didn’t really appear on last season’s soundtrack. Blame Game of Thrones? Skyrim?

Regardless, this upcoming Tuesday, July 16, we’ll be performing with the always-dashing My Dearest Friend at The 321 Local in Cocoa, FL as part of Dreaming God Productions Presents: A Night of Art and Music.
Twelve original artists will be displaying their work, and three bands will be performing. There’s NO COVER CHARGE, but if you purchase any artwork at the show, you’ll automatically be entered into a Customer Appreciation Raffle.
Say hi on the FACEBOOK event page and let us know you’ll be coming out. =) Oh, and please tell any friends you think might be interested — it’s going to be a great night~

321 Art Show July 16, 2013

Well, before I head off for the weekend to read Clark Ashton Smith and play System Shock 2, here’s a video someone took of Nat and I surprising BelleCon 2013 attendees with an unplugged version of Eternal Autumn at closing ceremonies. Enjoy, and til next time…

Komodo dragons, ponies, satyrs, and a rogue AI

Hey everyone, Robbi here. I figured that a quick paroxysm of randomness couldn’t hurt, so here ya go. 😛

Last night, I dreamed that random swarms of komodo dragons were attacking different places, so my mom took Nat and I to a giant mall for safety. But the mall was also sorta a school (y’know how places get fused in dreams…) Anyway, it’s funny that, in the dream, Nat was working on the tone for his guitar amp at the mall. In real life, Nat and I are going to spend a few days this week continuing to write songs for the next CD, which I’m greatly looking forward to. One of the new songs has a distinctly medieval vibe to it, but it’s pure rock!!! It’s so new that it doesn’t even have a title yet (and I need to finish writing the lyrics >_<)

I got some really positive feedback about the show Friday from friends who wouldn’t sugar-coat the truth, so I’m happy about that. Gonna work on honing my stage presence for our show at the Grand Brony Gala this upcoming Saturday.

Yesterday, I read the novella “The Great God Pan” by Arthur Machen — I’d highly recommend it. Machen was one of the “weird fiction” authors who influenced H.P. Lovecraft, and it’s easy to see the “piecing together of dissociated knowledge” that Lovecraft writes about in the opening paragraph of “The Call of Cthulhu” at work in Machen’s fiction. As soon as I finish typing this, I’m going to fix myself some breakfast tea and curl up to read one of Machen’s short stories — “The Shining Pyramid.”

When I haven’t been songwriting or reading weird fiction, I’ve been roaming the horror-haunted corridors of the derelict Von Braun. Yes, apparently Steam is now offering System Shock 2, one of the greatest PC games of all time, for under ten bucks. I love how unsettling the atmosphere is… and how unforgiving the gameplay is. Back-tracking through Engineering just to get a pair of pistols at 1 (about to break) condition and dividing my meager armor-piercing rounds between them so that I can quickly switch if one of them jams — those are the sort of moments in gaming that I remember years later. I finally invested in the “Maintenance” skill, so now all I need to worry about is not running out of maintenance tools… <_<;

While overseas, my friend snagged some very nice Burgundy for us to split, and we’re gonna open the first bottle tonight. I’ve been agonizing over the decision of whether to drink the Volnay or the Gevrey-Chambertin first (we’re saving the second bottle for another night.) That’s like… asking me to choose between AFI and GACKT.

Anyway, while I work through this existential dilemma, I’ll leave you with this quote from Lovecraft’s “The Case of Charles Dexter Ward,” which I finished a few days ago — “It is hard to explain just how a single sight of a tangible object with measurable dimensions could so shake and change a man; and we may only say that there is about certain outlines and entities a power of symbolism and suggestion which acts frightfully on a sensitive thinker’s perspective and whispers terrible hints of obscure cosmic relationships and unnameable realities behind the protective illusions of common vision.”
